Samantha B. : From an Early Interest in Hair to a Thriving Cosmetology Career
Samantha B. was born in the first generation of Jamaican immigrants. At the age of seven, she developed a keen interest in styling and braiding her doll's hair. As she matured, she pursued her interest in hair by landing her first job at an African Braiding salon at the age of 11. By 13, she became the only braider and assistant at an African American Salon in South Philadelphia. Throughout her high school years, Samantha maintained her job at the same salon while attending college full-time.
After completing several years of college, Samantha realized that her true passion was to become a master cosmetologist. In January 2014, she enrolled in beauty school and graduated in December of the same year. Six months later, she went back to beauty school to earn her master educator license.
In August 2017, Samantha B founded DaEssence of Perfection® Salon. The following month, she started working as a Cosmetology Instructor at a High School in Philadelphia, a position she has held for the past seven years.
